Hail Damage Step By Step Procedure

Step 1: File Your Vehicle Claim

To start things out simply call your insurance company or file one online.  All you need is the date of the loss and the location.  You will be asked for your policy number so have that prepared.   In case your vehicle might get close to totaling we will step in and A) save your vehicle from totaling B) Buy your hail damaged vehicle from you so you end up with more than your car is worth C) You purchase your vehicle back from the insurance company and we will help you fix it with the remainder of your money.  We all buy auto insurance in the belief that when the unthinkable happens, the “Goodhands” man will swoop in on a helicopter with a bag of cash and sweep us away to shop for new stuff, leaving the mess to get cleaned up by the crew from Extreme Car Makeover.  This could not be further from the truth. They have their bottom line to look after so that is why you need someone like us that will be on your side, no mater your decision.

A good insurance adjuster will have your back, up to the limitations of your policy, but even the good ones need your help. In cases where the quality of goods and materials in your home cannot be established, a minimum replacement cost is often given in place of the actual cost to replace your carpet, furniture, or electronics. By documenting the condition of your home, the materials in it and your belongings, you can help the adjuster take care of you like they hopefully want to.

Start with a list of items that may be expensive, or difficult to replace. List serial numbers, descriptions and other identifying factors. Then use a digital camera, or video camera to record images of each individual item or material. Photograph each room of the house, and its contents. Especially expensive items such as flooring and window treatment. Once you have captured the images, email them to yourself and your insurance agent for safekeeping, along with the list of items, serial numbers and descriptions. Then save a copy onto a thumb drive or other portable media.

Step 2: Don’t Get In And Accept Their First Check And Run

When the insurance company comes out for a field estimate there is a chance they will try to give you a check right then and there.  More times then not this check is under by a substantial amount and should never be taken serious.  You should get a reputable hail repair specialist on your side that can look at your estimate and make an assessment and determine if you got what you deserve.  If you decide that you want to keep all the money and not repair your vehicle should you not first make sure that you got what you deserve?  Chances are that we can work something out on like a partial repair and you can still end up with more money than the initial check they tried to cut you.   A lot of people get into too big a rush and fall prey to hustlers, that claim to be able to repair their vehicles at a fraction of the cost of the insurance check.  These are usually fly by night companies that will destroy your vehicle and you will not know it for months to come until your paint starts to crack all over and you only notice it because of all the rust you saw.  Dont’ fall pray to these scam artists that seek to steal any portion of your settlement.  The truth is that it will very well take all your settlement to repair your vehicle to pre-hail condition but because paintless dent repair allows one to fix a dent to a certain % you can save lots and still end up with a decent repair.  If you want %100 then it costs %100 but if you could live with less then you have some room to negotiate.  be careful of the so-called professionals (often called Storm Chasers within the industry) who follow the destruction that are too often only interested in making a quick dollar when compared with taking good care of an individual or business.

Step 3: Go In For Hail Repair

Once we have the approval form the insurance company we can start on the repair process.  This will start by ordering any parts that may have been damaged.  We then fully assess all the dents and develop a plan of action.  We then start to take the car apart to reach the back side of the dents.  Then the technician starts his work.  This process may take 1 week or at extreme times 1-1/2.  We do not rush things at all it’s just that our technique has been developed over the course of 20+ years and are very efficient at what we do.  We don’t cut any corners, and provide the best possible paintless dent repair that is humanly possible.

Step 4:Quality Control

Once the vehicle is finished we then take a very close look at the vehicle with our team of quality control experts.  We look at every angle possible and make sure we didn’t miss anything.  Once we get the stamp of approval from our quality control experts we begin re assembling the vehicle.  We clean and wipe the entire vehicle and make it look better then it came in.  We take pride in our work and that means every single step of the way.

Hail Damage Assessment Checklist

• Do you see any wavy reflections in your car’s finish?
• Look for obvious signs of dents and then start to count.  If you have more than 5 on each panel then it’s time to start a claim.
• Are there any dents in your vehicle trim?  This can be more than you think to fix.  Just some minor damage to your trim can indicate over $1,500 in damage.
• Are there cracks in your paint?  This can be a sign that your damage is very extensive and is well above the $5,000 mark.
• Was your windows damaged
• Is there any cracks in your mirrors?
• Any damage on your lights?

IMPORTANT – Protect Your Property From Further Damage.

If your vehicle is in any more storms and you did not repair you prior damage chances are that they will not cover the new damage.  Even if the old damage was not as severe as the next one, you will be SOL if they find out there was hail and you didn’t’ get it fixed.  This will either make it to where you will have to pay 2 deductibles or they may not cover the new damage but only will cover some of the old damage.  That is why  it is very important to make sure that you fix the hail as it happens because if you wait, it might come back to bite you in the ars.
